Maginon Film Scanner Software For Mac
I know that this is not the section for discussions of scanners, but I have found no suitable place to find answers to my questions. Perhaps someone might make a useful suggestion??
I have had a NIKON SF-210 slide/film scanner now for a couple or three years. However, I only started using it heavily last Fall (2008) to scan my large archive of old family slides. Unfortunately, as time has passed, the software has become more and more unstable causing me to have to restart the whole process after scanning only a small number of slides. Sometimes, it will not scan even one slide before crashing. I read somewhere that this behavior may be due to the upgrades in Mac software. I've done, repeatedly, all of the usual things that I can think of like reloading the software, etc.
I can't get a response concerning this problem from anyone at NIKON and they don't have any Mac version upgrades to the scanner software on their web sites, and haven't for some time, perhaps a couple or three years. Does NIKON still support Mac products??
Can anyone tell me how to solve or to find the solution to this problem?
Thanks, Gramp
Dec 14, 2014 Below you can download maginon film scanner fs 500 software driver for Windows. File name: maginonfilmscannerfs500software.exe Version: 1.3.2 File size: 1.931 MB Upload source: search engine Antivirus software passed: Avira Download Driver (click above to download).
I am using the Nikon Coolscan V (LS-50ED) USB connection with:
intel MBP 15' (2.8Ghz)
OSX 10.6.2. (Snow Leopard)
I am just using the standard (on disc) Nikon Software upgraded to version 4.0.2 via internet. The app says it is a *Application (PowerPC)* under the info section, so I assume that it is running on Rosetta. (the Genious did my upgrade to 10.6 so I don't know if he installed Rosetta or not, but I assume so.)
Everything seems to be working fine (as this is my first experience with scanning slides and color correction). Was a synch to set up. I am not the Ace though. I have only been using the slide scanner and not the film scanner yet (though I am soon to try).
FYI there is a flickr group of nikon scanner users. I found some of them helpful too.

Thanks, GrampPress and hold the Xbox button on the face of the controller for about 6 seconds—this will turn the controller off. Press the Xbox button again to turn the controller back on. Power cycle your Xbox or restart your PC. To power cycle the Xbox, press and hold the power button on the front of the console for 10 seconds, wait for the console to completely power down, then turn it back on. On a PC, press the Start button, then select Power Restart. Connect a USB-C cable. If The driver does not work you haven't enabled the driver. To do this, please open the driver window in system preferences then click advanced then click enable driver under options your computer. The good news is that you can also use an Xbox One controller with a Mac. The (somewhat) bad news is that, unlike the plug-and-play and wireless nature of the PS4 controller, the Xbox Controller requires some third-party drivers and configuration to work in OS X, and will only work while connected via a USB cable. Mac and PS4 controller. I cant get my PS4 controller to work with FORTNITE on my mac. Its connected wirelessly and it works perfectly on steam games but when I go on fortnite it doesn't work at all. At first, some buttons worked but now nothing works. Save hide report. Some buttons work on my xbox controller for mac for fortnite but some dont help. Your Mac might not have the massive library of games available to Windows gamers, but you can still play them in style by connecting an Xbox One controller – and you don't need any extra.

I try to find help for a problem but Nikon website doesn't speaks about film scanners (just cameras) and I tried Yahoo/Google search for some other sites/community board/discussions without success. I figure that people here might have a film scanner. Or can anyone direct me to a site that might help ?
Thank you.
Just in case someone here has this scanner I will post my problem too.
For some reason I did not install the reference manual and now that I want to install it, I can't because I have a problem with my computer (the DVD tray doesn't open).
Anyway, I need to find ASAP a solution to this problem:
When I scan a slide, the quality is good just like the slide. Then I save it to a folder, close the file and then go to the folder to reopen it (to check) and the image is grainy ! I tried numerous variations (file size, number of pixels per inch, etc.) but they all come grainy.
I'm sure (well, I guess) the explanation is in the reference manual on CD but as I said, I can't access this now. The print manual, which I have of course, do not mention this.
Please help.
Just in case there's a relation:
My monitor is, for years, on 800x600 because the recommended resolution makes the text too small. However I have literally downloaded thousands of JPEG pictures from the Web and the quality is excellent. So shouldn't my pictures be the same ?I have a Polaroid SprintScan 35+ slide & film scanner & have scanned hundreds of slides. I scan at a resolution of 300ppi. What resolution are you using?
Afetr I scan I crop the image & color adjust, if necessary, & reduce the resolution to 72ppi (or 100ppi). I have my screen resolution set to 1280 x 960.
Cheers, TomI have just 'inherited' a Nikon LS-10E dedicated film scanner (SCSI, +/- 10 years old).
Is this worth even fussing with if I have a modern flatbed scanner (4800x9600) with modern software?
I intend to use digitize color slides.
Thanks for your time!SCSI - what's .. - just kidding. Go here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCSI and you can see the various specs for SCSI and the bandwidth. Since USB 2.0 and FW400/800 appear to be faster then I would donate, toss, doorstop, the old scanner.
With the USB and FW the interface is easier - no device id's etc.
MJShortly after buying my Mac Pro and installing 10.5.5 my Nikon Coolscan 5000 slide and film scanner won't scan and save files. Apple have said it's a Nikon problem and Nikon have no plan to produce an update. I was just told to buy SilverFast instead which may work, but will cost £400 first to buy.
Any other work arounds with Photoshop Elements or another program? I have a slide feeder which will take up to 50 slides at a time. Any software suggestions which will allow this. My PC is much slower than my Mac, so would save me hours of time doing it on my Mac
Many thanksHI,
You posted in the Leopard forum but you installed 10.5.5 and your profile indicates you are running 10.6.2 That's a might confusing..
In any case, try reinstalling the drivers (sofware) that came with your scanner then repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of 'messages' in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, 'Permissions Repair Complete' when it's finished.. you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
CarolynI don't know what happened to my previous post on the subject. Only half of the text appears to have been published. No wonder I received no replies!
As I mentioned previously, I have a Nikon LS3510-AF film scanner (circa 1994) that I have been trying to get to work using a Mac Plus. I eventually gave up, and bought a fully functional Performa 6200 running OS 7.6.1, which should work with the scanner. Nikon no longer supports the LS3510-AF, but I found out that the scanner will work if I use Adobe Photoshop version 4 or 5 (which I have). I just need to obtain the Photoshop plug-ins for the scanner, but I cannot locate them anywhere here in the UK.
Please—anybody. This is becoming a real issue for me, that would be eased just by seeing the scanner work, just once even!
I would be grateful for any feedback.
Many thanks,
SteveSteve,
I do not want to rain on your parade but you might have bigger problems than software. We aquired a Nikon LS-1000 Cool Scan in 1999. Tried it out and had a lot of spots on the image. I checked my slides for mildew or dust. Fortunately, the originals were still in good shape.
Checked with the Nikon dealer in town. Turns out that they did not build ultrasonic vibration cleaning into the earlier model scanners. So, the imaging units suffered from 'static cling.' Nikon had a proceedure for cleaning but it was not simple.
I can check to see what plug-in software came with the 1000.
Ji~mHi All,
I am using the Nikon Super CoolScan8000 and Vuescan program to scan a slide film. I am scanning at this setting: scan resolution 4000 dpi. I have to make it a certain dimension that someone has been asking me for. They want the image at Width = 60cm (approx. 23 inches) and 300 dpi.
When I scan at 4000 dpi, I'm not sure what size to make the printed width. I have experimented numerous times and I've had no luck with getting exactly what I want. It seems that when I make the width 60 cm (the height adjusts proportionately) and the dpi at 300, the quality is not that great, which it definitely needs to be because it will be printed at a large size.
Someone please help ASAP!
Thank you!
PS I am using Adobe Photoshop CS3 and I also have Adobe Photoshop Elements 9You can only get 228 ppi out of the end product. That should be good enough.
How do I install a CanoScan film scanner using external disc drive ?
sorry, not being very clear. I have the scanner and am trying to instal the operating programme onto my new macbook. It was fine on my 6 year old one! I put the setup disc in the external drive. I can now get it to load 80% but it then stops. I have then tried to eject the disc - it won't let me as it says it is still setting up - but after 2 hours still says the same and clearly is doing nothing. I can't quit the setup programme - the only way I finally managed to quit was to to force quit the computer to shutdown and then when I start up again I can eject the disc.
Any idea how I make it load the 20% of the setup that it is currently refusing to do?I am unable to install a software driver for a Canon film scanner FS4000US. I have downloaded it from Canon then open the package click the install and it asks for a location namely the Applications folder. Then it says it has been installed re -start etc, but still no driver.
I am using Mac OS 10.6. Any suggestions greatly received. I have repaired/disk and permissions and it still does not work.Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select '/var/log/install.log' from the file list. Post the messages from the last installation attempt, starting from the time when you launched the Installer or Software Update.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.I have a Nikon LS-4500 medium format scanner which is now attached to a PC running XP which I would like to use with my iMac rather than maintaining two computers. Any ideas? Is a USB to SCSI connection possible?

in the google search you could also try replacing the usb part by firewire
mind you it may not be compatible
and if would require drivers for both the converter and a twain driver for the scanner
so make sure there are osx drivers for all parts before spending too much
though if it was me I would likely just flush the scanner out the toilet and buy a new oneUpgrading to Mavericks stopped my running of Maginon Film Scanner FS 500. Has anyone any news of an upgrade to the device's software?
Try using it with Image Capture, if you haven't already.
I have a maginon film scanner bought from ALDI. It works with windows but with OSX Maverick software it keeps crashing as soon as I try and capture an image. I cannot find details of software updates anywhere.
Same question answered here : https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5762314?tstart=0
I just popped in with using Mavericks (I got rid of my MBP about a year ago, and just got another one when I got an Air for my wife) and noticed that Mavericks is not working and playing well with a couple of programs I already owned (Paraellels, for example..yes, I spelled it wrong..). I looked for maginon.com and it didn't exist, nor was my google search directed to another location for them, so I postulate that the device may not be in production anymore, thus: no driver updates from the manufacturer.
From my mac-noob-layman's perspective: get some vmware, run windows and use the scanner in your virt machine to capture your images. Put the images in your mac side and work your mac magic on them there.
PeaceI have a mission to scan several hundred slides for archiving. I am using a Nikon LS4000 scanner. I can scan 8bit or 16 bit and save in NEF format or Tiff format. I get a message that; None of these formats are supported by Adobe dng at this time.
Does Adobe ever plan to address this issue and Is there a workaround?Nikon scanner '.NEF' files are really .TIF files inside as far as the data inside them is concerned. There is no advantage to using .NEF format over .TIF format when saving images from the scanning software.
If you happen to have done this my mistake in the past because you did not know any better, Camera Raw 4.4.1 will actually read scanner NEF files now (it processing them the same as TIF files).Running OS x 10.9.1 on a iMac 27. I installed VueScan but my system doesn't recognize the scanner and I can't figure out how to add it. Connection is firewire with 400 to 800 adapter. Any ideas?
If you are using a FW400/800 plug adapter of any kind, replace it with a single FW cable like this one to connect directly from your Coolscan8000 to your Mac.
If your Mac only has a Thunderbolt port (no Firewire) then also check your Thunderbolt-Firewire adapter. I have had trouble with off-brands. The only one that has ever worked for me is the official Apple Thunderbolt-Firewire Adapter.I have a Maginon FS500 film/slide scanner Supra Electronica. Elements 9 Win 8. Windows sees this as a USB Microscope Imaging device. MS driver System32driversKSthunk.sys. I can scan ok to Image scan tool software that comes with it but I cannot import directly into Elements.
I had a Traveller 6500 scanner that used an Omnivision Driver ( WIA OVT) and got it working after installing the TWAIN plug in, it stopped working when I went to Win 8 as the Arcsoft scan to file software was not Win 8 compatible. I could scan but not calibrate and the results were very poor. Both scanner are made by the same people but the 6500 uses a Vista driver and shows as a USB camera. The FS 500 does not need a specific driver and shows as a USB microscope I can not understand why I can see it in the Windows control panel but not Elements. I am considering going back to Win 7 as all these updates and incompatible hardware and software is expensive. .' I can scan ok to Image scan tool software that comes with it but I cannot import directly into Elements.'
Why not save the scanned files in a folder on disk, then import the 'keepers' to the organizer from there?
